Between 12 October and 11 November, the EHDEN consortium held its seventh and final open call for Data Partners. We are delighted to announce that this call had an unprecedented number of responses, not only for the number of applications, 158, but also in terms of its wide geographic coverage with 30 European countries being represented.
It’s tremendous to see that with 166 Data Partners, in 27 countries, from our previous open calls, the interest to join the network is stronger than ever. Following this call, as for the prior six, will be a competitive selection process, and we will endeavour to include as many applicants as feasible.
The current call is being funded in collaboration with Health Data Research UK, and has a total budget of EUR 1.3 million (EUR 1 million from EHDEN and up to GBP 300,000 from HDR UK for UK applicants). There was a specific preference towards applications from countries not yet (or minimally) represented in the EHDEN network; large, national and regional datasets; datasets with granular data on patient outcomes, claims, registries were of specific interest.
Following an eligibility and completeness check, our independent Data Source Prioritisation Committee (DSPC) is now reviewing these applications. We plan to have the final selection of Data Partners from the call by mid-December and look forward to finalising the linking of these Data Partners with our 64 certified SMEs for their ETL cycle to the OMOP CDM.
"At the end of the call series, it is truly remarkable to see such a considerable number of applications with such data and geographical diversity and the response is validation of EHDEN and our collective vision, and means we are likely developing the largest network of its kind here in Europe. So many have collaborated to make this possible, and to start realising the ability to generate evidence at scale with our Data Partners. We are looking forward to extending the EHDEN community to include those selected, and seeing how we can support others who may not be. EHDEN is also very pleased to have collaborated with HDR UK for this final call, and to see UK applicants who may be selected work with both initiatives."

"It is fantastic to see such high number of applications to this joint EHDEN-HDR UK Data Partner call. Having received 15 applications from the UK we hope this is only the start of a stronger collaboration between partners from across the European region. Successful UK data applicants will now join the current 17 UK EHDEN Data Partners already working together to increase usability of health data and driving open science research programmes. On behalf of the UK Health Data Research Alliance, we are delighted to be part of this community driving development and adoption of standards to improve reliability of scientific research."
